Putting yesterday’s mortifying tale to the back of our minds, there was an unbelievable amount of good about Saturday’s Marriage Equality Rally. The community support was massive and so reassuring, the crowd was at times electric. It was so exciting to be a part of and to share it with some of my best friends, gay and straight. I think the best way to tell the beautiful side of the Rally is to show you my pics….
How gorgeous is this mum who was marching with her husband and their son.
And then there were many like this guy who went to the trouble of making their own signs.
And I have some of the funniest coolest friends in the world…
Now my dear friend Mrs Woog and her gorgeous son Jazz Hands are regulars at the marches, and for that I adore them even more.
The crowd was absolutely massive, so many more than any of us expected.
The march from Hyde Park to Darling Harbour, via Pitt St Mall, was long but so much fun! Especially when you see support like this along the side of the road.
So in so many ways it was an incredibly successful day. Not quite the result we wanted but at least there is increasing recognition of the need to change the Marriage Act to include same-sex couples. The fight continues.
Our posse then ended back up at Man Pit for some celebratory vodka’s and Pizza Hut. To indicate the frivolity… Adam turned to us at one point and said “Do you think this too big to wear to Melbourne Cup?” It was that sort of day/night.
Thank you so much to everyone who showed support for the cause on your Twitter and blogs over the weekend. The online talk was phenomenal, and I believe has a huge impact. We still have quite some way to go with the fight unfortunately, and I think our voices are only going to get louder and louder.
